Eight Black Romance Recs for February

In honor of Black History Month and the Month of Love colliding, NHBF board member Angelica Ladd is sharing her favorite romance books by Black authors—stories you should definitely add to your TBR!

When I Think of You by Myah Ariel – A second-chance romance between former college sweethearts who must work together to make a movie.

Sex, Lies, and Sensibility by Nikki Payne – A Sense and Sensibility retelling that is laugh-out-loud funny, sizzling hot, packed with great banter, and, at times, as infuriating as the source material.

A Love Song for Ricki Wilde by Tia Williams – A contemporary fairy tale that weaves magic, fate, and romance into every page. With an irresistible love story, a vibrant Harlem setting, and a touch of Jazz Age nostalgia, you won’t be able to put this one down.

Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert – After a near-death experience, quirky and determined Chloe Brown makes a list to finally “Get a Life.” But living it up isn’t as easy as she thought. Luckily, Red Morgan—a motorcycle-riding handyman with a hidden artistic side—is more than happy to help… and maybe steal her heart along the way.

Only for the Week by Natasha Bishop – Janelle is the maid of honor at her sister’s wedding. The catch? Her sister is marrying her ex. Even more complicated? Janelle is sleeping with the best man. With sizzling chemistry, emotional depth, and an empowering journey of self-worth, Janelle and Rome’s love story is one you’ll want to devour in a single sitting.

Before I Let Go by Kennedy Ryan – A beautifully written, deeply emotional second-chance romance that explores love, loss, and healing with stunning honesty. Kennedy Ryan delivers a poignant story of passion, personal growth, and the power of finding hope—even after heartbreak.

That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon by Kimberly Lemming – A lighthearted, spicy, and utterly fun adventure romance that doesn’t take itself too seriously. If you’re looking for something addictive and hilarious, this one’s for you.

The Fastest Way to Fall by Denise Williams – Britta never expected to fall for her personal trainer, and Wes never expected his first new client to turn his world upside down. But as their connection deepens, they’ll have to decide if risking their careers is worth the chance at something real. Great banter in this one!

Happy reading! And don’t forget—BIPOC stories deserve to be read all year round.
